Participatory instruction-based performance for the duration of the exhibition with one live performer continuously reading from a list of instances of the creation of national boundaries; four chairs and four bi-lingual English-Mandarin texts for the participation of visitors; wall text inviting visitors to read a page from the list; a single recording of an intoning of the list by a female voice electronically stretched to last the duration of the exhibition, playing through four speakers in the space. This ongoing collaborative project between Andrew Byrne and Tom Nicholson began with the work 23.01.1901/12.07.2005, performed in Melbourne, and also includes the work Lines towards another century, peformed in Bath in 2008, and in Venice in 2009.
Writing on the project includes text by Media Art Bath director Bridget Crone and by Chris Fite-Wassilak in Frieze, and in Art and Australia.
